Supportive Housing programs

Housing includes Mental Health Supportive Living and Permanent Supportive Housing in order to support individuals with their mental health.

Mental Health Supportive Living

Services at Piney Ridge Apartments (PRA) are designed to meet the independent housing needs of adults who have serious mental illness.  These are individuals who have had difficulty living independently and who can benefit from the supportive services of on-site case management and a property manager.  The goal of this program is to promote increased self-reliance and potential for the individual to progress to a less supervised setting.

Permanent Supportive Housing

Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) programs in Virginia have proven that providing housing first for individuals that are homeless or at risk for homelessness, and have multiple barriers such as mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and chemical dependency, combined with personalized services has helped many individuals reclaim their lives.  These services promote wellness, prevent and end experiences of homelessness, avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, and facilitate discharges from institutional facilities.  A housing coordinator assists individuals in obtaining housing following the “housing first” principles.  In general, individuals may receive intensive case management services to include transportation, linkages, and referrals to other services including primary health care services, job skills training, education services, assistance with obtaining benefits, and housing education.
