Behavioral Health Services

The Behavioral Health Services Division is dedicated to delivering quality mental health and substance use care through a variety of programs and services aimed at empowering the individual to improve their quality of life.  It is the mission of the Behavioral Health Services Division to provide comprehensive diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and community education services to the individuals of the catchment area.

Prevention Services

The Prevention Services Division provides programs to promote behavioral health wellness through a comprehensive array of strategies proven to reduce substance abuse and promote mental health. Substance abuse and mental illness share common risk and protective factors. As a result of reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors for substance abuse, not only will substance abuse prevalence, consumption and related consequences be reduced, but prevention of mental illness will be impacted as well.  In addition to the Federal, State and local dollars, Prevention Services Division relies heavily on grants, contracts, fees and other contributions in order to provide programs at no cost.

Developmental Services

The Developmental Services Division provides a services system that assists citizens of Danville and Pittsylvania County with developmental disability in having the same opportunities and choices as other members of the community in the following areas:

  • to have a home

  • to learn skills which are useful to their lives and careers

  • to work

  • to develop and sustain relationships with people who depend on them and upon whom they can depend
